Between Culture, Media & Society

Hi, I’m Johanna

Johanna Czekalla sitzt auf einer Dachterrasse im Schneidersitz und lächelt in die Kamera.

Born in Poland, raised in Germany. Extended stays abroad in Australia, France, Québec, Latin America & Portugal. Speaking 4.5 languages. Currently living in Spain.

I've kept a journal since I was eleven. Maybe that's why I'm so fond of lists – to keep track of the complexity of the (inner) world.

Taking on different perspectives, as well as living & working interculturally, has been part of me from the start.

I love making the big picture visible. To me, all topics are closely interconnected: everything we do (or don't do) is political. I want to bring this knowledge & awareness into my work.

And: I believe work is allowed to be fun. In my experience, with respect, nonviolent communication & humor, you can achieve pretty much anything together.

Sustainability, feminism & society have long stopped being side topics for me – they're an essential part of my work.

Where I come from, what I stand for

Three things
that shape my path

01

CulturE & CULTURAL LANDSCAPES

My professional home is the culture industry, with a focus on music & film.

And the more countries & cultural landscapes I got to know, the clearer it became to me: everything is interconnected.

02

CONNECTION & RESPONSIBILITY

We need a livable planet to be able to enjoy art & culture in the first place.

And we need a societal shift in thinking to make social justice possible for everyone.

03

journalistiC & NETWORKED

I work journalistically, not just operationally: I research, contextualize & develop processes that keep running even without me.

Networked across the European culture & media landscape.
